How to care for your dried flowers

If you are deciding to add dried blooms to your home, you are going to need to know how to care for your dried flowers. When you purchase your wreath making kit, there are few things you are going to need to know. This way you will be to be able to care for them, and ultimately to make them last longer…

Keep it cool

Firstly, you will need to make sure that you keep your dried flowers in a dry, cool area of your home. This is to allow a good airflow around the flowers. Should they start to become damp they will turn moldy! It’s worth checking the air flow of your vase. If it’s not great, it will become humid. Once again, making them moldy.

Don’t get them wet

This one is simple. Please whatever you do, do not get the dried flowers wet. If you do, they will wilt and become moldy. They won’t last long at all.

Keep them safe from outdoor elements

A lot of people have asked if you can place wreath kits outdoors? I have and will always advise that you do need to keep them safe from the elements. If you have a porch or sheltered area this should go some way to protect it. However it is not guaranteed. If you wish to hang your dried flower wreaths outdoors you have to accept that the wreath will perish much quicker than if it is kept indoors. If you plan to create a wreath each season this may not worry you too much, but it’s always worth noting.

Avoid too much sunlight

With the sun streaming in through the windows on to your dried flowers, it’s safe to say that the colours from your dried & preserved wreaths will fade much quicker. The beauty of dried blooms is to keep them for a long time, so try your best to put them in a spot that won’t be hit by direct sunlight all day.

Be gentle

Dried flowers are extremely delicate, and it’s part of their charm. So, when placing your wreath or dried blooms somewhere, try and locate them where there won’t be a huge amount of traffic passing by so it doesn’t get knocked and moved around too vigorously.

So there you have it, that’s how to care for your dried flowers.

It might seem like there are a lot of do’s and don’ts when it comes to looking after dried flowers, but if they are looked after carefully, they can last months, sometimes years. Therefore it pays dividends to take great care of them so you can enjoy them for longer!
